About BNB
BNB was launched in 2017 by Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum before migrating to its own blockchain, BNB Chain (formerly Binance Smart Chain). BNB Chain supports EVM-compatible smart contracts and has become one of the most active DeFi and NFT ecosystems.
BNB serves multiple functions within the Binance ecosystem: it provides trading fee discounts on the exchange, powers the Binance Launchpad for new token sales, and is used as gas for transactions on BNB Chain. Binance conducts quarterly burns of BNB to reduce supply, with the goal of eventually burning 100 million tokens — half the total supply.
